Tabs in the Sheffield Blitz, December 1940

“There was a full moon on Thursday 12th December 1940.  A thick mist had settled over Sheffield’s East End where the steel works were located but otherwise the City Centre and surrounding suburbs could look up at a crisp, clear night.”

Extract from “Bombed but Unbowed – a history of Hillsborough Tabernacle”

As we look back at the history of our Church we remember how a member  took an early morning walk to inspect the damage on Proctor Place.  The only piece of “The Tabs” that remained was one wall bearing the message

“O WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS”

It is 80 years since that fateful night and we thank God for all those who had the vision to re-build the Church and we pray that we may now have a new vision to re-build the Church after Covid-19!
